- What is Coney Island Clown Skool?
- Coney Island Clown Skool is an intensive, week-long training program that immerses students in the art of clowning, movement, physical comedy, and character development. Set in the legendary Coney Island USA, the program offers hands-on workshops, performances, and field trips designed to nurture creativity and comedic expression.
- Who is Coney Island Clown Skool for?
- Our program is open to adults 18 and older who want to explore the world of clowning—whether you’re a performer, actor, comedian, educator, or just someone looking to step outside your comfort zone and have fun! No previous clowning experience is required.
- Why should I attend Coney Island Clown Skool?
- This program is unlike any other, offering expert instruction in a historic setting, unique performance opportunities, and an immersive experience that blends classic and contemporary clowning. You’ll develop essential performance skills, build confidence, and connect with a network of like-minded artists.
- When is the next session of Coney Island Clown Skool?
- Our next session is slated for September 14 - 20, 2025
- How much does it cost to attend Coney Island Clown Skool?
- The early bird rate for our 2025 session is $995 (until June 14th), after which tuition increases to its regular rate of $1,295 (for applications received June 15th - September 1st). If you're selected to attend, a $50 deposit is required to hold your seat and will be applied to your total cost of tuition. Because many of our outings and activities require us to purchase your tickets in advance, deposits are refundable only before September 1, 2025. The remaining balance of your tuition must be paid in full by 11:59 PM EST on September 1, 2025, to complete your official enrollment. Please contact us if you'd like to discuss a 3-part payment plan!
Curriculum & Training
- What will I learn at Clown Skool?
- Our curriculum covers:
- Clowning Fundamentals – Comedic timing, improvisation, and audience engagement.
- Physical Comedy & Slapstick – Safe execution of pratfalls, exaggerated movement, and classic gags.
- Movement & Body Awareness – Using mime, dance, and body language for storytelling.
- Puppetry & Object Manipulation – Bringing props and inanimate objects to life.
- Character Development – Creating unique clown personas and refining stage presence.
- Live Performance Skills – Opportunities to perform and receive feedback.
- Will I get to perform during the program?
- Yes! Throughout the week, you’ll participate in works-in-progress showcases, and the program concludes with a graduation performance on the legendary Coney Island Sideshow stage. Additional pop-up performances may happen during the week.
- Is there a specific clowning style taught at Clown Skool?
- We introduce students to various styles, including traditional circus clowning, physical comedy, theatrical clowning, and improvisational performance. The focus is on helping students discover their own unique clown persona.

- Do you provide housing?
- No, housing is not included, but we can recommend nearby accommodations, including hotels, hostels, and short-term rentals.
- What should I bring to class?
- Wear comfortable, movement-friendly clothing and closed-toe shoes. You may also want to bring a notebook, water bottle, and any personal props or costume pieces that inspire you.
